iPhone 12 renders leak, show off notch-less display and new design

HIGHLIGHTS

  • iPhone 12 is tipped to ditch the notch on the display
  • The smartphone is instead expected to house all the sensors in the phone's bezel
  • Renders have leaked which show off the design of the phone

We're months away from the launch of the iPhone 12, but leaks and rumours about the device have already started to go into overdrive. Over the last few days, there have been a number of leaks that claim to have revealed key details about the upcoming iPhone. And now, new reports appear to have added to the existing trove of information about the device.

According to a new expert prediction, Apple could be set to make drastic design changes to the iPhone 12 as it plans to do away with the notch on the upcoming smartphone. This would fall in line with previous reports that Apple is looking to introduce a refreshed design with its new iPhones.

Interestingly, the information comes courtesy of Meizu’s former president Li Nan. He has revealed that Apple has been working on removing the notched display ever since the iPhone X launch. The prediction has also been backed by Svetapple which has posted some renders of the alleged iPhone 12 Pro. The renders too show the design of a notch-less iPhone with all its components now housed into the top bezel of the phone.

To remind our readers, Apple introduced the notch on the iPhone X and has since used it in two more iPhone generations. While the prediction about Apple doing away with the notch on the iPhone 12 may appear as a logical step, several reports in the past few weeks have hinted that it may not be for this year.

Reports have claimed that Apple will stick to notched displays for the iPhone 12 but improve the size of the panel. We've even read reports that the iPhone 12 could feature the biggest display on an iPhone to date -- a 6.7-inch panel.

Noted Apple analyst, Mincg-Chi Kuo recently claimed that the iPhone 12 could also get support for new technology, sensor-shift image stabilisation. Kuo has claimed that the aforementioned technology will make its way to the top-end 6.7-inch iPhone in 2020 with the new image stablisation technology seeing the actual image sensor move slightly. This in effect will help it handle movement and vibrations in a similar way to how optical image stabilization allows a camera's lenses to move.

However, the feature is expected to only be part of the top-end 6.7-inch iPhone model this year, with the rest of the models not getting access to the technology. They will feature current-gen stabilisation technology, much like the iPhone 11 Pro models which feature optical image stabilization for both photo and video, but only when using the Wide or Telephoto lenses.

BSNL introduces free work at home broadband plan with 5GB data everyday

HIGHLIGHTS

  • BSNL introduced work at home broadband plan.
  • The plan will offer 5GB daily data at 10Mbps.
  • It will be only available to landline BSNL users.

The coronavirus spread in India has forced many private and public sector employees to work from home. While working from home will help in keeping social interaction at bay, there are many factors that could hamper the productivity of the people who are working from home. The internet connection is one of those major factors but now it seems BSNL has a perfect plan for its subscribers who are working from home. The telecom company has introduced a Work@home broadband plan at free of cost.

The BSNL’s new plan will be all networks across the circles including Andaman and Nicobar region. However, there is a catch. Only the BSNL users with a landline connection will be able to avail this plan at free of cost. Under the scheme, users will be provided 5GB daily data at 10Mbps and once the data is exhausted the speed would come down to 1Mbps per day. There’s no FUP limit on the plan.

This move by BSNL has been made to encourage more people to work from an alarming situation like this. If more and more people vouch to work from home it will help in curbing the coronavirus spread.BSNL’s well-thought-of plan will help a lot of people to work from home.

The BSNL work at Work@Home plan comes with a 5GB daily per day at 10 Mbps speeds and unlimited data at 1 Mbps speeds. There are no installing or monthly charges involved with his plan. However, this plan can only be availed by existing landline users who probably do not have a broadband connection yet.

With this plan, BSNL eyes to convert the existing landline users into broadband users and avail the free data benefits. This will not hamper the free calling benefits that the users already have as per their landline plan. Once the user becomes a broadband subscriber, he will have to pay for the landline plan he had subscribed to but the data benefits would be offered for free.

Some Internet Service Providers such as ACT Fibernet and Airtel Xstream Fibre have also introduced new plans to lure the customers. Airtel Xstream Fibre has waived off the installation and security deposit for new subscribers, while the ACT Fibernet internet speeds to 300 Mbps and even offering unlimited data until March 31. All these plans have been announced keeping in mind that more and more people will be at home most of the time.

Disney+ India Launch Date Pulled, Hotstar Says, as Coronavirus Pandemic Pushes 2020 IPL

Coronavirus has felled Disney+ Hotstar. The new streaming service won't launch on March 29 in India, as previously announced, Hotstar said Friday. This was expected, given BCCI's decision last Friday to postpone the start of the 2020 Indian Premier League season until mid-April in the wake of growing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney had wanted to time the launch of Disney+ in India with the start of IPL, in a bid to use the Twenty20 cricket tournament's popularity to drive up subscriptions. With IPL pushed back, it naturally made little sense for Disney+ Hotstar to stick to that date.

In a prepared statement, DisneyAPAC president and Star & Disney India chairman Uday Shankar said: “We recently announced that Disney+ would launch in India through the Hotstar service in conjunction with beginning of the Indian Premier League cricket season. Given the delay of the season, we have made the decision to briefly pause the roll-out of Disney+ and will announce a new revised premiere date for the service soon.”

Shankar's statement also confirms what Gadgets 360 first reported on Saturday, that Hotstar had paused the weekly rollout of new Disney+ content in India. Owing to that, Disney+ Hotstar is now stuck in a curious position — you can watch all the Disney+ originals released between November 2019 (original launch) and March 6 (the last Friday before its early India arrival), but anything that's been released since on Disney+ is not available to Hotstar subscribers. With the launch pushed back, we will not see any new Disney+ content likely until IPL begins.
