CANON REVEALS DETAILS ABOUT 8K-CAPABLE EOS R5

Canon reveals details about 8K-capable EOS R5

Canon had officially announced the development of the much rumoured Canon EOS R5 back in February. The company has kept quiet since then about its cameras, but today, we finally get more official information about the EOS R5 and it is shaping up to be one impressive camera.Canon has officially announced that Canon EOS R5 will sport in-body image stabilization, addressing one of the biggest criticisms of the EOS R and EOS RP. However, what’s bound to grab more eye-balls is the fact that the EOS R5 will be capable of recording 8K video. While that by itself is a major feat, the deal gets a lot sweeter. The EOS R5 will be able to shoot 8K video in-camera. If that wasn’t enough, you will also be able to capture 8K RAW video in-camera.The fact that Canon has committed to in-camera video recording is extremely commendable. It all started with the Canon 1DX MarkIII which brought 5.5K RAW video recording, all in-camera. This allows film-makers to do away external recorders, which come with their own hassles. Besides offering internal 8K RAW recording, the EOS R5 is also going to be capable of shooting 4K at 120fps. As for colour spaces, you get 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 colour, for all resolutions and of course, supporting internal recording.
Enabling this level of internal recording Canon will incorporate dual memory card slots into the EOS R5, a CFExpress card slot and an SD Card slot. CFExpress card slots are capable of blazing-fast transfer speeds and are what enables the EOS R5 to record such heavy files internally.
Besides the above, there really is no more information available around the EOS R5. Canon has been rather silent about the timeline of release for the camera. While we wait for Canon to officially launch the now confirmed EOS R6 and the still rumoured EOS R6, what we’re getting in the meantime is Canon augmenting its RF-mount lens portfolio. Since the introduction of the EOS R system, Canon has launched 10 high-quality lenses for the RF mount, including a 28-70mm f/2.0L USM lens.

As the world is reeling from the Coronavirus outbreak, more people are staying home and some are even working from home. This has caused internet usage to skyrocket and video conferencing apps are seeing a lot of traffic. Video conferencing is one of the ways people can stay in touch with their loved ones and even attending official meetings. This has given apps like Google Meet new life. Google is taking the opportunity to add new features and improve Google Meet. Just as a reminder, Google Meet used to be called Google Hangouts.
Google Meet will now get Gmail integration just like Hangouts, previously. The app will also feature a grid-style setup much like another video conferencing app in Zoom. These changes will start rolling out today. A part of the G-Suite package, Google Meet will receive a new option to join a video conference soon. Google has not given any specific dates but according to reports, it should start rolling out next month. The Meet app will also receive the option to show 16 video streams in a similar layout to Zoom, which is to say a grid-styled layout.
Outer improvements include clearer video in low light environments and more comprehensive filtering of background noise. Users will also be able to access Google Meet from their Gmail account. The integration with Gmail should start rolling out today with the grid-style layout appearing later in the month.

iPhone 12 renders leak, show off notch-less display and new design

HIGHLIGHTS

  • iPhone 12 is tipped to ditch the notch on the display
  • The smartphone is instead expected to house all the sensors in the phone's bezel
  • Renders have leaked which show off the design of the phone

We're months away from the launch of the iPhone 12, but leaks and rumours about the device have already started to go into overdrive. Over the last few days, there have been a number of leaks that claim to have revealed key details about the upcoming iPhone. And now, new reports appear to have added to the existing trove of information about the device.

According to a new expert prediction, Apple could be set to make drastic design changes to the iPhone 12 as it plans to do away with the notch on the upcoming smartphone. This would fall in line with previous reports that Apple is looking to introduce a refreshed design with its new iPhones.

Interestingly, the information comes courtesy of Meizu’s former president Li Nan. He has revealed that Apple has been working on removing the notched display ever since the iPhone X launch. The prediction has also been backed by Svetapple which has posted some renders of the alleged iPhone 12 Pro. The renders too show the design of a notch-less iPhone with all its components now housed into the top bezel of the phone.

To remind our readers, Apple introduced the notch on the iPhone X and has since used it in two more iPhone generations. While the prediction about Apple doing away with the notch on the iPhone 12 may appear as a logical step, several reports in the past few weeks have hinted that it may not be for this year.

Reports have claimed that Apple will stick to notched displays for the iPhone 12 but improve the size of the panel. We've even read reports that the iPhone 12 could feature the biggest display on an iPhone to date -- a 6.7-inch panel.

Noted Apple analyst, Mincg-Chi Kuo recently claimed that the iPhone 12 could also get support for new technology, sensor-shift image stabilisation. Kuo has claimed that the aforementioned technology will make its way to the top-end 6.7-inch iPhone in 2020 with the new image stablisation technology seeing the actual image sensor move slightly. This in effect will help it handle movement and vibrations in a similar way to how optical image stabilization allows a camera's lenses to move.

However, the feature is expected to only be part of the top-end 6.7-inch iPhone model this year, with the rest of the models not getting access to the technology. They will feature current-gen stabilisation technology, much like the iPhone 11 Pro models which feature optical image stabilization for both photo and video, but only when using the Wide or Telephoto lenses.
